Meet 1892 Legacy Society Members
There are many ways to give a planned gift to The Wistar Institute. Here are four special stories that highlight individual decisions to support the Institute as it actively works to ensure research advances are aimed at curing diseases such as cancer, HIV and Zika virus.
Joseph Grusemeyer
Attend almost any social event at The Wistar Institute and you will find Joseph Grusemeyer, somewhere in the room, chatting with researchers. Sometimes you will see him asking them about their work, but just as often he will simply be listening, nodding attentively over cheese and crackers.
Diane Lafferty
Diane Lafferty is a retired nurse, mother of four and grandmother. The Delaware county native is following in the footsteps of her late husband Thomas Lafferty by including The Wistar Institute in her will.
Elizabeth Pesce
Elizabeth's father, an estate attorney, worked with The Wistar Institute. When her father died of colon cancer, her family set up a fund in his memory: the Louis Washburn Memorial Fund, which raises money to support research studying the environmental factors that cause cancer. Elizabeth is also a breast cancer survivor.
Dr. Harry Rosenthal
For more than a decade, mathematician Dr. Harry Rosenthal has been a Wistar friend and supporter. A transplant from New York, it was through close friends and Wistar donors that Dr. Rosenthal learned about the Institute's mission and was excited to become involved in The Wistar Institute Heritage Society.
